Maru - David Trubridge
Maru is a new concept luminaire from the David Trubridge Studio and is made from 60 identical components that clip together to create an elliptical form and lit internally by low energy LED modules. The effect of shadow play on surrounding walls and ceilings is Maru's hidden quality. The name Maru is found in both New Zealand Maori and Japanese languages, with references to the cycle of life.
Maru is produced in two sizes with bamboo plywood as the main material which can be all Natural or Caramel, or painted on one side, plus double-sided Black or White thus creating a selection of different options.
Natural Plywood, Caramel, Red, Lime, Aqua, Blue, Pink, Orange, White, Black
The Maru pendant is made from sustainably sourced natural bamboo plywood. The caramel bamboo starts out as natural and is carbonised using steam to caramelise the natural sugars which darken the bamboo. This process creates a different look without the use of chemicals. For the colour selections an acrylic low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint is used.
