Nikau - David Trubridge
“Nikau is the name of the only indigenous palm tree in New Zealand. It has a large bulb at the top of its trunk and its leaves overlap in similar patterns. It was traditionally used for thatching and weaving, much like the coconut palm. But the early Maori arrivals were disappointed to see no coconuts on it, which is a possible source of the name: “no nuts!” ” - David Trubridge
Bamboo plywood is the main material which can be all Natural or Caramel, or painted on one side thus creating a selection of different options, plus double-sided Black or White.
Natural Plywood, Caramel, Red, Lime, Aqua, Blue, Pink, Orange, White, Black
The Nikau pendant is made from sustainably sourced natural bamboo plywood. The caramel bamboo starts out as natural and is carbonised using steam to caramelise the natural sugars which darken the bamboo. This process creates a different look without the use of chemicals. For the colour selections an acrylic low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint is used.
